CJI Surya Kant's 2-Day Hometown Visit: Folk Music, Feasts & Court Inaugurations
CJI Surya Kant's Grand Homecoming to Hansi After Becoming CJI

The historic town of Hansi in Haryana is set to welcome its most distinguished son with open arms and traditional fanfare. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant is making a momentous two-day visit to his hometown, marking his first return after ascending to the apex judicial office in the nation.

A State-Sponsored Homecoming Steeped in Tradition

Declared a state function by the Haryana government, the visit on Friday and Saturday is a grand celebration of a proud "son of the soil." Justice Surya Kant will be accompanied by his wife, Professor Savita Vashisht. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will also join the CJI at several events during the meticulously planned itinerary, which comprises seven major engagements blending official, academic, cultural, and personal elements.

The homecoming will be announced by the soulful melodies of folk instruments. A traditional reception awaits the CJI upon his landing in Hansi at 3 PM on Friday. A convoy led by a 'Been Baja' troupe will escort him to the Hansi court complex, where a police band and a shower of flower petals will complete the ceremonial welcome.

Official Engagements and Nostalgic Returns

The visit is rich with professional symbolism and personal nostalgia. After the Hansi reception, Justice Surya Kant will proceed to Hisar to address the District Bar Association. This is where he began his legal career as a young lawyer in the mid-1980s. Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, along with other judges, is expected to be present.

The first day will conclude with a dinner at a private hotel in Hisar, where the menu is a tribute to local culinary heritage. Guests will be treated to specialties like the earthy sarson ka saag, Gajjarpak, and the famous Hansi Peras.

Given the visit's status as a state event, extensive arrangements are in place. A high-level team, including Justice Alka Sareen, Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, and Registrar General Chander Shekhar, will accompany the CJI. A team from the subordinate judiciary, headed by District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik, is tasked with ensuring the event's success.

Inaugurations, Heritage, and Village Celebrations

The second day focuses on development and heritage. Chief Minister Saini will join the CJI for the inauguration of a new court and the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the court complex in Barwala city, Hisar district. A court in Narnaund, Hansi district, will also be inaugurated.

While the CJI attends to official duties, a cultural and heritage tour has been organized for Professor Savita Vashisht and accompanying judges' spouses. They will visit Rakhigarhi, the internationally significant archaeological site of the early Harappan civilization, to gain insights into the region's ancient past.

The emotional core of the visit will be the CJI's trip to his native village, Petwar. A traditional Haryanvi lunch and cultural program have been arranged in his honour. Later, Justice Surya Kant will attend an alumni meet at a government college in Hisar.

The visit will conclude on Saturday evening. After his engagements, a state-provided helicopter will fly the Chief Justice from Sirsa Air Force Station to his next destination, Guwahati.
