In a swift and efficient operation, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) successfully returned an unattended bag filled with valuable items to its rightful owner. The incident highlights the vigilance and professionalism of airport security staff in handling such situations.
Discovery of the Unattended Bag
During a routine patrol, CISF officers spotted a silver-colored bag lying unattended at the arrival pick-up point area. Following standard security protocols, they immediately secured the bag to prevent any potential risks.
Security Checks Conducted
The bag underwent a thorough examination by specialized teams. First, the dog squad sniffed it for any suspicious substances. Then, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) inspected it closely. Both teams confirmed that the bag posed no security threat, allowing the personnel to proceed with identifying the owner.
Identifying the Passenger
Upon opening the bag, CISF personnel found several important items inside. These included a laptop, an iPad, a cellphone, a passport, and a boarding pass. The passport was issued in the name of Fazmine Aqil, providing a clear lead.
To locate the passenger, the team reviewed CCTV footage from the airport. The footage showed that Aqil had already exited the airport premises, making direct contact impossible at that moment.
Coordinating with the Airline
Using details from the boarding pass, CISF personnel coordinated with the relevant airline. They managed to trace Fazmine Aqil's contact number through the airline's records. Soon after, they informed Aqil about the baggage left behind at the airport.
Safe Storage and Retrieval
The bag was then deposited at the Airport Terminal Manager (ATM) office. A proper entry was made in the lost and found register to document the incident. This step ensured the bag's safety until the owner could collect it.
Later, Fazmine Aqil arrived at the airport accompanied by her husband. After completing the necessary formalities, she collected her bag. The passenger expressed deep gratitude and appreciated the CISF's prompt and efficient response in recovering her valuable belongings.
