Security agencies in Jammu are on heightened alert after the discovery of a sophisticated Chinese-made rifle telescope near the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The device, used for precision targeting with sniper and assault rifles, was found in a vacant plot close to several critical security installations, raising serious concerns about potential surveillance or targeting activities.
Discovery Near Vital Security Hub
The alarming find was made on Sunday, December 21, 2025. The telescope, clearly bearing Chinese markings, was recovered from an overgrown piece of land situated strategically between the NIA's regional office and the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Security Headquarters. The area is also in close proximity to the battalion headquarters of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB).
Senior police officials who immediately inspected the site have maintained secrecy regarding ongoing investigations. However, sources indicate that the placement of such a device—specifically designed for use by terrorists to enhance weapon accuracy—in the vicinity of four major security installations has set off alarm bells within the intelligence and security community.
Infiltration Fears Amid Dense Fog
The discovery comes at a time when security forces are already operating under a state of high alert across Jammu province. This alert status is based on specific intelligence inputs warning of possible infiltration attempts from across the border, with militants potentially using dense winter fog as cover.
In response, for the last four days, a coordinated search and area domination operation has been underway. Joint teams comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces are combing areas stretching from the International Border (IB) to the mountainous terrain along the Line of Control (LoC). The objective is to preempt and thwart any infiltration bids.
Reactivated Terror Launch Pads Across Border
The heightened security measures follow intelligence reports pointing to a sudden surge in terrorist activity at launch pads on the other side of the border. A senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer had revealed last month that Pakistan has reactivated approximately 72 terror launch pads opposite Jammu province.
These pads are reportedly located in depth areas close to the border. The breakdown includes:
- 12 active launch pads in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the International Border.
- Another 60 launch pads have become active across the Line of Control.
This reactivation is said to have occurred nearly seven months after Pakistan's defence infrastructure suffered significant damage during India's Operation Sindoor. The districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Rajouri are particularly under focus due to these threats.
The recovery of the Chinese rifle telescope is now a critical piece of this tense security puzzle. It underscores the persistent threat and has intensified operational vigilance as security forces work to ensure no hostile elements manage to breach the borders or threaten the region's stability.
