Chhattisgarh Minister Confirms Surrender of Top Maoist Leader Devji
In a significant development in the fight against left-wing extremism, Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma on Sunday confirmed the surrender of Tippiri Tirupati, widely known as Devji, who is believed to be the general secretary of the CPI Maoist organization. This confirmation came hours after initial reports broke about the surrender, with Sharma stating that Devji surrendered before the Telangana police.
Major Victory in Anti-Maoist Operations
Speaking to the media in Chhattisgarh, Minister Sharma emphasized that this event marks a crucial phase in the security officials' ongoing battle to eliminate Maoism from the region. "We received information today that Devji surrendered before the Telangana police," Sharma declared. He highlighted Devji's seniority within the Maoist hierarchy, noting that after Basavaraju, the former general secretary, Devji was the most senior leader and had been discharging duties as the general secretary.
In addition to Devji, Sharma revealed that Malla Raji Reddy, alias Sangram, also surrendered. Sangram had been active in various areas, including the dense forest region of Abujmad. "This is a very big victory," the minister added, underscoring the strategic importance of these surrenders in weakening the Maoist infrastructure.
Recovery of IEDs and Ongoing Operations
Further detailing the security efforts, Sharma reported that in the ongoing operation in Karregutta, Chhattisgarh police recovered 89 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These recoveries are part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling Maoist safe houses and operational bases. The minister asserted that areas previously used as safe havens by Maoists will be systematically cleared and erased from their control.
The surrender of such a high-ranking leader like Devji is seen as a major blow to the Maoist movement, potentially disrupting their command structure and operational capabilities.
