In a significant crackdown on narcotics trade, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of Chennai has dismantled a local drug supply network, leading to the arrest of three individuals. Among those apprehended is the owner of an ice cream shop, revealing an unusual front for illegal activities in the Muthialpet area.
The Muthialpet Operation and Arrests
Acting on specific intelligence regarding drug sales on Saiva Muthaiya Street in Muthialpet, ANIU officials conducted a targeted operation. The raid led to the immediate apprehension of two individuals: Mohammed Farooq and Sultan Jafar. During the operation, law enforcement officials successfully seized 240 grams of high-quality OG ganja along with three mobile phones, which are believed to have been used for coordinating the illicit transactions.
Ice Cream Shop Connection Uncovered
Subsequent investigation into the activities of Farooq and Jafar uncovered a surprising link to a local business. It was revealed that both men were employees of an ice cream shop operating in the same neighbourhood. The shop is owned by Zainulabdin, who was subsequently identified as a key figure in the racket. Following this revelation, police moved swiftly to arrest Zainulabdin, thereby rounding up all individuals connected to this particular supply chain.
Legal Proceedings and Further Action
All three arrested men have been handed over to the Muthialpet police station for further legal action. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Chennai police to combat the distribution of narcotics within the city. The use of a commonplace ice cream shop as a potential cover for drug supply operations points to the evolving methods employed by those in the narcotics trade. Authorities are likely to deepen their investigation to determine the source and wider network of this seized consignment of OG ganja.
