Tragic Death of Auto Driver in Chennai
A 53-year-old auto driver from Chennai met a tragic end after being brutally attacked by two brothers in the Avadi area. The victim, identified as Muthu from Sridevi Nagar, Kamarajar Nagar, succumbed to his injuries after a violent altercation that began over a seemingly minor incident.
The Fateful Night That Led to Violence
The incident occurred last Sunday when Muthu returned to the auto stand around 3:30 am after completing a ride. Upon his arrival, he found 51-year-old Srinivasan from the same locality lying unconscious near the auto stand in an intoxicated state.
When Muthu's attempts to move the drunken man failed, he eventually chased him away from the premises. The decision would prove fatal as Srinivasan returned home and informed his sons about the incident.
Brutal Attack With Bricks
Enraged by what happened to their father, 23-year-old Jebaraj and 21-year-old Arul rushed to the auto stand and confronted Muthu. The brothers dragged the auto driver out of his vehicle and launched a vicious attack using bricks as weapons.
The assault left Muthu severely injured, and bystanders eventually intervened to rescue him. He was immediately rushed to Avadi Government Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to the better-equipped Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital (KMCH).
From Assault to Murder Case
Despite medical efforts, Muthu's condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night. The tragic outcome prompted police to escalate the case significantly.
Authorities have now altered the original assault case into a murder investigation. Both brothers have been arrested and were subsequently remanded to judicial custody as the legal process begins.
The incident has shocked the local community in Avadi, raising concerns about public safety and the escalation of minor disputes into fatal violence. Police continue their investigation while the family of the deceased auto driver mourns their devastating loss.
