Tragic Accident Claims Life of 18-Month-Old in Chandigarh

A heartbreaking incident in Chandigarh has left a family devastated. An 18-month-old boy, Pratik, lost his life after a speeding car struck an e-rickshaw. The accident occurred in Mauli Jagran on January 1. The child succumbed to his injuries at PGIMER on Tuesday, following nearly two weeks of treatment.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The tragedy unfolded near the Sundar Nagar light point in Mauli Jagran. According to police reports, a white car approached from the Hallo Majra side. It hit the e-rickshaw from the right without honking. The impact was severe, causing the e-rickshaw to overturn.

Raju, the child's father, was traveling with his family at the time. They had just visited the Mata Mansa Devi temple. Pratik was sitting in Raju's lap when the collision happened. The force threw the toddler onto the road, resulting in critical head injuries.

Family's Ordeal and Police Action

Raju, a car mechanic by profession, also sustained injuries in the mishap. Both father and son were rushed to PGIMER for medical care. While Raju continues to receive treatment, his young son could not survive.

Police have registered a case at the Mauli Jagran police station. The FIR cites Sections 106(1), 125(a), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. It names the unidentified car driver as the accused. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Ongoing Investigation Efforts

Authorities are actively working to solve this case. They are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. The goal is to identify the vehicle and its driver. A police official confirmed that the investigation is progressing.

Efforts are being made to trace and arrest the accused driver at the earliest, the official stated. The community awaits justice for this young life cut short.
