Chandigarh: Murder, Shootings in 24-Hour Crime Wave

Chandigarh Reels from Violent Crime Wave Within 24 Hours

Chandigarh witnessed a shocking series of violent incidents over a single day. The city experienced two separate shooting episodes followed by a brutal daylight murder. These events have left residents concerned and police scrambling for answers.

Daylight Murder in Sector 38

A 21-year-old man named Golu, also known as Kolis, met a tragic end on Friday afternoon. Assailants chased him down in Sector 38 and stabbed him repeatedly with sharp weapons. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Police investigators believe an old rivalry triggered this killing. Golu had visited the Sector 43 district court earlier that day with his mother Meena. They were attending a hearing related to a dispute case.

According to police sources, the accused knew about his court appearance. They allegedly monitored him during the proceedings. After court, Meena took a different route home while Golu went to a friend's house in Sector 38.

The friend warned Golu that his attackers were still searching for him. He advised Golu to leave immediately. When Golu stepped outside, two men on a Bullet motorcycle began following him.

They first tried to attack him near the BJP office. Around 3 PM, they finally intercepted him near the Sector 38 slip road. The attackers surrounded Golu and stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

A passerby noticed the severely injured youth and alerted police. Medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital. Teams from Sector 39 police station quickly reached the location.

Forensic experts and senior officers cordoned off the area. They collected crucial evidence including blood samples and Golu's two-wheeler.

Family Devastated by Tragic Loss

The killing has shattered Golu's family. He had married just 45 days earlier. His family had planned a post-wedding ritual at their home for Friday night.

Preparations were already underway when news of his death arrived. Golu's mother Meena made serious allegations against specific individuals.

She named Shammi, Gautami, Kishu, Golu and others as holding grudges against their family for nearly a year. Meena claimed this same group attacked a relative in Sector 17 last month.

She also connected them to previous incidents in Bapu Dham and Mauli Jagran. Police have registered a murder case and formed multiple teams to apprehend the accused.

Shooting at Sector 32 Pharmacy

Late Thursday night, two unidentified men opened fire outside a chemist shop in Sector 32. They escaped immediately after the incident. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries in this shooting.

Police arrived quickly and began examining CCTV footage to identify the attackers. The initial motive remained unclear.

Further investigation revealed a personal dispute involving a woman caused this pharmacy shooting. Officials stated the attackers were unhappy about an alleged relationship involving one shop owner.

They had issued verbal warnings asking him to stay away from the woman. The firing followed these threats according to police statements.

The incident occurred around 9:50 PM at Sewak Pharmacy in Sector 32 D. Two youths arrived on a white scooter. One entered the shop and fired two bullets at 23-year-old Tanish Luthra.

Tanish is one of the pharmacy owners. Neither bullet hit anyone. One round shattered the glass counter while the other struck the counter's lower section.

In his police statement, Tanish said he was inside with a staff member during the firing. The assailants issued threats while escaping. Tanish added he could recognize them if brought before him.

Sewak Pharmacy operates under joint ownership of Tanish Luthra, Dushyant Pundir and Iqbal Singh. Investigators learned the shooters acted from anger over a personal matter involving one partner.

Police and forensic teams collected physical evidence from the scene. They are scrutinizing CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets to identify suspects and track their movements.

Builder's Home Targeted in Sector 21

In another late-night incident, unidentified assailants opened fire outside a builder's residence in Sector 21. City-based builder Ankit Sadhana lives at this location.

Police reported five to six rounds were fired. One bullet hit a car parked outside the house. The attackers also threw around ten handwritten chits before fleeing.

Sadhana told police he remained unaware of the firing during the night. His staff mistook the sounds heard around 2:30 AM for firecrackers.

Bullet marks on the main gate and front wall were only noticed when he woke up around noon. Police have not recovered any empty cartridges so far.

CCTV cameras at the residence were not functioning during the incident. A forensic team examined the scene while police reviewed footage from nearby areas.

Incidentally, the builder received an extortion call on Friday morning. The caller claimed association with the Bambiha gang and demanded five crore rupees. He threatened dire consequences if his demands went unmet.

Names Appear on Handwritten Chits

Police recovered handwritten chits from the Sector 21 shooting scene. Some mentioned the names Mohabbat Randhawa and Pawan Shokeen.

Investigators noted similar slips have surfaced in several recent firing incidents across Punjab. These often appear outside business establishments.

Police sources said these names figure in cases linked to alleged extortion and organized crime. They suspect association with a network connected to the Bambiha gang.

However, officials clarified they are still probing whether the names indicate direct involvement. They might simply be used by others to intimidate targets.
