CBI Intensifies Probe into Medical Aspirant's Death, Re-examines Hostel Evidence

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has significantly escalated its investigation into the alleged rape and tragic death of a medical aspirant from Jehanabad district. In a series of meticulous operations, CBI teams have been re-examining critical evidence at the girls’ hostel in Patna where the victim was discovered unconscious. Simultaneously, they are conducting extensive interrogations to uncover the truth behind this distressing case.

Detailed Interrogations at Victim's Residence

On Sunday morning, an 18-member CBI team arrived at the victim’s residence in Jehanabad around 9 am. The officers engaged in nearly five hours of rigorous questioning with her parents, neighbors, and several villagers. This interrogation focused on eight specific questions central to the agency’s investigation. Key aspects included the late-night calls made by the girl to her father on December 26, 2025, and her sudden visit to her native place the following day, among other critical details.

The victim’s father described the interaction as constructive and hopeful. “Around 18 CBI officers arrived. They questioned my wife and me. The atmosphere during the interrogation was very positive, which gives us hope that we will now get justice,” he stated. He emphasized that he shared the complete truth with the team and reiterated the family’s unwavering demand: “We are fighting for the truth and are continuously demanding the arrest and strict punishment of those involved in this incident.”

The investigation team also conducted a thorough inspection of various parts of the house, examining documents and materials provided by the family. Officers assured the family that the probe would be conducted impartially and strictly based on facts, reinforcing their commitment to a transparent inquiry.

Forensic Examination at Patna Hostel

This action followed a detailed search operation on Saturday at the girls’ hostel in Patna, where the student had been residing while preparing for the NEET exam. The team spent approximately three-and-a-half hours meticulously examining the premises. Forensic samples were collected from a wide range of items and surfaces, including:

  • Books and notebooks for references to pressure, threats, relationships, or indicators of her mental state.
  • Clothing, room corners, the door, window, and floor of the victim’s room.
  • Micro-samples from beneath the bed, lower sections of the walls, and the floor, searching for traces of blood, semen, hair, fibres, or signs of physical force.

Bedding items such as sheets, mattress, and pillows were packed for detailed examination of stains, creases, and fibre patterns. Additionally, fingerprint and touch DNA samples were collected from high-contact surfaces like the doorknob, handle, lock, and window grill to determine if any outsider had entered the room.

Digital and Medical Evidence Analysis

Digital devices recovered by the earlier Special Investigation Team (SIT), including the victim’s mobile phones, chargers, and laptop, are being sent for forensic examination. This analysis will encompass:

  1. Call logs and chat histories to trace communications.
  2. Deleted data and location records for timeline reconstruction.
  3. Internet search history to understand her activities and state of mind.

This digital evidence will be correlated with available CCTV footage to construct a precise timeline of events. After completing the hostel inspection, the CBI team visited private hospitals to review medical records, the Leave Against Medical Advice (LAMA) report, and statements of attending doctors, ensuring a comprehensive review of all medical aspects.

Background of the Case

The case dates back to January 6, when the medical aspirant was found unconscious in her hostel room and later died after remaining in a coma for several days. Allegations of sexual assault, supported by post-mortem findings and the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, triggered widespread public outrage. Initially investigated by Bihar Police through an SIT, the case was handed over to the CBI amid mounting demands for a fair and transparent inquiry, reflecting the gravity and sensitivity of the incident.

The CBI’s intensified efforts underscore a determined push for justice, as forensic teams and investigators leave no stone unturned in their quest to uncover the facts and deliver accountability in this heartbreaking case.
