CBI Arrests HPCL Sales Officer in Nagpur for Accepting ribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation's anti-corruption branch has made a significant arrest in Nagpur. Pratik Tagale, a sales officer at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in Chandrapur, was caught red-handed and arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe.

Details of the Bribery Case

The incident occurred on January 17. Tagale allegedly demanded a bribe of 1 lakh rupees from a complainant. The case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to CBI officials, the complainant's wife owns an HPCL retail outlet.

She had filed a written complaint on January 12. Tagale reportedly sought 2 lakh rupees to facilitate the handover of the retail outlet. This demand came despite the owner settling all dues and disputes related to the outlet.

How the Trap Was Laid

CBI verified the allegations on January 13. Following verification, the officer insisted on full payment of the bribe. When the complainant expressed inability to pay the entire amount, Tagale agreed to accept 1 lakh rupees as part payment.

A trap was carefully laid by the anti-corruption branch. The operation led to Tagale's arrest at the spot on January 17. He was caught while accepting the bribe money.

CBI's Appeal to the Public

CBI's Nagpur unit has issued a public appeal. They urge citizens to report any demands for bribes by employees of central government departments or undertakings. People can contact the agency at 9423683211 or 07122510382 to file complaints.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption in public sector undertakings. The CBI continues to actively pursue such cases across the country.
