CB-CID Intensifies TNEB Hard Disk Theft Probe

The crime branch-criminal investigation department (CB-CID) has intensified its investigation into the theft of hard disks from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) headquarters in Chennai by summoning EB officials and employees for questioning. Investigators are also seeking custody of the two arrested suspects — Gopinath, 31, a contract worker from Arakkonam, and Murali Manohar, 33, a shop owner from Bengaluru — to examine whether the theft was part of a larger conspiracy.

Details of the Theft

The case pertains to the theft of 34 hard disks containing departmental records from the TNEB headquarters on Anna Salai. The Chintadripet police initially registered a theft case and initiated an investigation before the matter was transferred to the CB-CID for further inquiry. A CB-CID team led by Superintendent of Police Sajitha visited the TNEB headquarters, inspected the sections and office cabins from where the hard disks were reported missing, and collected evidence.

Contents of Missing Hard Disks

According to sources, the missing hard disks reportedly contained documents related to tender procurement and other important inquiries. The theft has raised concerns about the security of sensitive records within the state electricity board.
