Cattle Smugglers Arrested in Sonbhadra After Police Firing

A joint team of police personnel from several police stations and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested three cattle smugglers in Sonbhadra district late on Wednesday night. Two of the suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Operation Details

Sonbhadra ASP (operations) Rishabh Runwal stated on Thursday that acting on intelligence about the movement of cattle smugglers, officers from Raipur, Pannuganj, Kotwali, and Robertsganj police stations, along with SOG and surveillance teams, launched an operation. They set up barricades at several points near Sarsot on the Madhupur-Naugarh-Chakraghatta road and attempted to stop a pickup van around 1 a.m.

Exchange of Fire

Upon seeing the police, the miscreants opened fire and tried to flee. In retaliatory firing by the police, two accused—Vikas Yadav and Meraj Quraishi, both from Kaimur (Bhabhua) in Bihar—sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were apprehended along with their third accomplice, Vijay Pratap Yadav of Chandauli. Authorities seized two pistols, cartridges, six cattle, and the pickup van from the suspects.
