The Nuh police successfully apprehended an alleged cattle smuggler following a brief exchange of fire near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Tuesday morning. One of his accomplices, however, managed to escape from the scene. The accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the encounter and was subsequently admitted to Nalhar Medical College for medical treatment.
According to officials, the police recovered five cattle that were being transported in a pickup vehicle, along with an illegal firearm and cartridges. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law.
Details of the Encounter
The incident took place near Badi Kothi on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway when the smugglers were transporting the cattle in a pickup vehicle. A team from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Punhana, had set up a barricade in the area. Upon spotting the suspicious vehicle, the police signaled the driver to stop. However, the driver ignored the signal, broke through the barricade, and sped away, prompting a chase.
During the pursuit, the occupants of the pickup vehicle opened fire at the police team. The smugglers then abandoned the vehicle while continuing to fire and attempted to flee on foot. In the retaliatory action taken by the police, one of the accused was shot in the leg and fell to the ground, while the other managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Identification of the Accused
The arrested individual has been identified as Aslam, a native of Mandasor in Madhya Pradesh. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. The Nuh police spokesperson confirmed that the accused is currently under medical supervision and will be produced before the court once discharged.
Police teams have launched a search operation to nab the absconding accused. Several raids are being conducted in nearby areas, and further investigations are underway to uncover the entire smuggling network.
The police have also urged the public to provide any information regarding the escaped suspect. The recovered cattle have been handed over to the local animal husbandry department for care.
