The individual has been identified as Mohammad Zeeshan, a 25-year-old resident of Semriha village in the Koraon region of Prayagraj. During the encounter, Zeeshan sustained a bullet injury. He was immediately provided medical aid and admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
From his possession, the police team recovered significant evidence, including:
- A country-made pistol of 0.315 bore.
- One used and one unused cartridge.
- A motorcycle he was riding at the time.
How the Police Operation Unfolded
According to official reports, a team from the Koraon police station was conducting routine checks near the Lediyarai trisection road in the early hours of Wednesday. Their attention was drawn to a man behaving suspiciously on a motorcycle.
When the police officers signaled him to stop for questioning, the man attempted to speed away and escape. The police team swiftly surrounded him. Faced with capture, the criminal opened fire on the police personnel. The police, acting in self-defense, returned fire. In the ensuing retaliatory action, Zeeshan was hit by a bullet and injured, leading to his arrest.
Criminal Background and Gang Links
Investigations revealed that Mohammad Zeeshan is not a first-time offender. He has two existing criminal cases pending against him in police records. During interrogation, Zeeshan reportedly confessed to his involvement in a more extensive criminal network.
He told the police that he was a member of an inter-state gang active in cattle smuggling. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly waiting for a vehicle headed towards Devghat. His intended role was to brief the occupants of that vehicle about a specific location, likely related to the gang's smuggling activities.
The arrest has potentially disrupted a link in a larger criminal chain, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the gang's operations and its other members.
