Pilibhit Police File Case Over Doctored PM Modi Image on Instagram

Police in Pilibhit have registered a case on Monday against a man for allegedly posting a doctored image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Instagram. The image depicted the Prime Minister in attire associated with another faith, and authorities stated that the post was intended to promote enmity and disturb communal harmony within the limits of the Jahanabad police station.

Complaint Filed Against Mohammad Arbaz

The complaint was filed against Mohammad Arbaz, a resident of Bisen village, by Sub-Inspector Gyan Chandra, who is posted at the Jahanabad police station. During the investigation, police visited Bisen village and gathered evidence indicating that the altered image of the Prime Minister had been uploaded through Arbaz's Instagram account.

Sub-Inspector Gyan Chandra explained, "Our inquiry revealed that the doctored image was posted from Arbaz's account. The content was aimed at spreading hatred between people of two different faiths and had the potential to provoke members of one community to commit offences against another."

Legal Action Under BNS Section 353(2)

Station House Officer Pradeep Kumar Vishnoi confirmed that the case has been registered under BNS section 353(2). This section deals with promoting feelings of enmity, hatred, or ill will between groups by circulating false information or rumors. The police are actively working to trace the accused, who was not found in the village during their search.

SHO Pradeep Kumar Vishnoi stated, "We have taken legal action under BNS section 353(2) for circulating false information to incite communal discord. Efforts are underway to locate the accused, as he was absent from the village at the time of our investigation."

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the misuse of social media platforms to spread divisive content and the legal measures being enforced to maintain communal harmony in the region.
