Car Creates Panic on Sukhna Lake Walking Track
Visitors at Sukhna Lake experienced moments of fear and confusion on Thursday evening when a man drove his car directly onto the pedestrian walking track. The incident, which occurred around 7 PM on November 6, 2025, sent shockwaves through the popular recreational spot as walkers and exercisers scrambled to safety.
White Swift Spotted on Restricted Walkway
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a white Maruti Swift car moving along the walkway that is strictly designated for pedestrians only. What made the situation more concerning was that the vehicle contained the driver's entire family, including his wife and children.
According to people present at the scene, visitors were startled when they suddenly noticed the car approaching them on the track. Many had to rush to the sides to avoid being hit, while others shouted loudly to alert the driver. However, with the car windows rolled up, the driver reportedly couldn't hear the warnings and continued moving forward.
Police Intervention and Driver's Explanation
Hearing the commotion and alarmed voices, police personnel from the nearby Sukhna Lake police post quickly responded to the situation. They positioned themselves strategically ahead on the track and signaled the driver to stop the vehicle immediately.
Upon questioning, the man claimed he was a visitor from outside Chandigarh and stated that he was completely unaware that driving on the track was prohibited. Police investigation revealed that the driver had entered the pedestrian zone through the lake's backside gate, where a temporary passage had been opened for trucks involved in maintenance work.
Legal Action and Safety Concerns
The police took swift action by issuing a traffic challan to the driver and giving him a strict warning about his dangerous actions. He was directed to exit the track immediately and was clearly informed that if he repeated such an act, a formal case would be registered against him.
A police official emphasized that the Sukhna Lake walkway is a complete no-vehicle zone, meant exclusively for walking and fitness activities. The unauthorized entry of vehicles poses a serious safety risk to visitors, particularly during evening hours when the promenade is crowded with both local residents and tourists.
The entire incident was captured on video by witnesses and has since gone viral on social media platforms. The footage clearly shows the white Swift car being driven on the pedestrian path while numerous people were out walking, jogging, and exercising during the popular evening hours.
