Car Erupts in Flames on Nagpur's Wardha Road Flyover; Driver Flees Scene After Alerting Authorities

A dramatic incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in Nagpur when a car caught fire on the busy double-decker flyover along Wardha Road. The driver, identified as Amjad Khan, reportedly fled the spot after alerting the police, leaving the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Engine Overheating Suspected as Cause of Blaze

According to Inspector Nitin Magar of the Sonegaon police station, smoke began billowing from the car's bonnet, likely due to an overheated engine. This prompted Khan to stop the vehicle abruptly on the flyover. "The driver's phone is switched off," Inspector Magar stated, adding that the vehicle owner has been traced to Pusad and is en route to Nagpur.

Police confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident, which could have escalated into a major accident given the high traffic volume on Wardha Road.

Bystanders Record Videos Instead of Reporting Fire

The blaze was first noticed by Pooja Jadhav, a water supply engineer who was passing through the area. She observed that while several bystanders were busy recording videos of the burning car, no one immediately informed the fire department. "It was alarming to see people more focused on filming than helping," Jadhav remarked.

Timely Fire Brigade Response Averts Catastrophe

Jadhav promptly alerted fire officer Sanket Mate, leading to the dispatch of a fire tender. The emergency call was logged at 7:02 PM. Officials praised the swift response of the fire brigade, emphasizing that their timely intervention helped prevent a potential disaster on the congested flyover stretch.

The incident highlights the importance of public vigilance and prompt emergency reporting in urban settings. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the fire and the driver's actions.
