A tragic incident of mob violence resulted in the death of a 30-year-old cancer patient in Howrah on Thursday. The victim, identified as Sk Allauddin, was allegedly beaten severely by local residents who accused him of stealing a mobile phone.
Details of the Mob Attack
The incident occurred near Andul Road in the Bharpara area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sankrail Police Station. According to police sources, Allauddin, a resident of Panchpara, was allegedly caught snatching a mobile phone on Thursday morning. An agitated crowd then reportedly tied him to a lamppost and subjected him to a severe assault.
Local people claimed that after the beating, Allauddin fell unwell. He was then left in a field in a bloodied state, the sources added. The police, during their morning patrol in the area, later found him and rushed him to Howrah District Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.
Family's Anguish and Allegations
The deceased's relatives stated that they were informed about the incident by the police only on Thursday afternoon. After receiving a call from the Botanical Garden Police Station, they went to Howrah Hospital and identified his battered body.
His father, Sk. Aminuddin, revealed distressing details about his son's health. He said Allauddin had undergone surgery for cancer on his face just two-and-a-half months ago at the state-run SSKM Hospital. The grieving father added that his son had recently been struggling with various addictions and had left home on Wednesday night. Following the tragic event, the father has lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The Sankrail Police have initiated a probe into the entire sequence of events. The investigation will look into the allegations of mobile theft, the actions of the mob, and the circumstances that led to Allauddin's death.
