Buxar: The Buxar Congress on Friday staged a protest demanding the immediate reopening of the Itadhi railway crossing, claiming its closure has caused severe inconvenience to commuters and locals.
Protest Details
Led by District Congress Committee president Pankaj Upadhyay, party workers marched from Jyoti Chowk to the collectorate and submitted a memorandum to DM Anshul Agrawal seeking intervention. Carrying party flags and banners, protesters raised slogans against the railways and the administration.
Background of the Closure
Addressing the gathering, Upadhyay said the crossing on the Buxar-Itadhi route was permanently closed after the inauguration of the Buxar railway overbridge (ROB). However, traffic on the ROB was suspended after a slab allegedly developed damage and collapsed soon after the bridge was opened on June 5.
“With both the railway crossing and the overbridge closed, thousands of residents are facing daily hardship. Despite efforts by the district administration to get the crossing reopened, the Railways has not taken any concrete step so far,” he alleged.
Potential Crisis
Warning of worsening conditions, he said, “Schools are set to reopen and the wedding season is continuing. If the crossing is not reopened immediately, Buxar may face a serious traffic congestion crisis. The common people are suffering because of official negligence.”
