The chief of the Border Security Force's (BSF) Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, has stated that while attempts to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) have seen a decline, a significant security threat persists. This assessment comes alongside a critical revelation from a recent BSF report.
Shift in Terror Infrastructure: A Strategic Move
The report highlights a concerning tactical shift by elements across the border. According to the BSF's findings, more than 70 terror launch pads have been relocated from forward positions to what are described as "depth areas" inside Pakistani territory. This move is seen as an attempt to place these staging grounds for militants farther from the LoC, potentially to shield them from surveillance and direct action.
Ashok Yadav emphasized that this repositioning does not diminish the latent danger. The infrastructure and intent to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir remain active, albeit from a greater distance. The BSF continues to maintain a high state of alert and dominance along the frontier to counter any such attempts.
Infiltration Trends Show Decline
On a cautiously optimistic note, the BSF chief pointed to a noticeable drop in infiltration attempts in recent times. This reduction is attributed to the robust multi-layered security grid and relentless counter-infiltration operations conducted by Indian security forces, including the BSF, along the sensitive border.
The heightened vigilance and improved technological surveillance have made it increasingly difficult for terrorist groups to successfully cross over into the Indian side. This has been a key focus of the security establishment's strategy to bring stability to the region.
A Persistent and Evolving Challenge
Despite the positive trend in thwarting crossings, the security apparatus is not lowering its guard. The relocation of launch pads signifies an evolution in tactics by anti-India forces, requiring an adaptive and intelligence-driven response.
The BSF's report, dated around 01 December 2025, underscores the complex and enduring nature of the security challenge in Kashmir. While operational successes on the ground have curbed infiltration numbers, the persistent presence of terror infrastructure in depth areas across the border means the threat is merely managed, not eliminated. The forces remain committed to neutralizing this threat and ensuring peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
