Hyderabad: BRS women leaders on Wednesday urged Director General of Police CV Anand to immediately arrest Bandi Sai Bhageerath, the prime accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case, along with Union minister Bandi Sanjay and another accused named Sangappa. They called for an impartial investigation into the matter.
Delegation Meets DGP
A delegation comprising former minister Satyavathi Rathod, former MLA Gongidi Sunitha, and former ZP chairperson Tula Uma met the DGP on Wednesday. They sought security for the victim’s family and emphasized that the police must treat influential accused and ordinary citizens equally under the law.
Legal Context and Allegations
The leaders cited Supreme Court observations that a minor’s consent is legally irrelevant under the Pocso Act. They stated that all allegations of sexual assault or coercion require a fair and uninfluenced probe. The delegation alleged that weaker sections of law were invoked in the case, allowing the accused to secure easy bail and dilute the investigation.
BRS Leader Demands Action
In a separate press conference, former IPS officer and BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar demanded a suo motu case against Bandi Sanjay and sought his dismissal from the Union Cabinet. He accused the police of acting under political pressure and failing to take action against Bhageerath and his father. Kumar also questioned police notices issued to Bhageerath’s maternal uncle instead of Sanjay, alleging bias in the investigation.
The developments come amid growing political tensions in Telangana over the handling of the case. BRS leaders have vowed to continue pressing for justice and a transparent inquiry.
