In a gruesome incident that has shocked the Mohali district, a man allegedly murdered his own brother following a petty argument over loud music and then attempted to destroy the evidence by setting the body on fire. The Sohana police have arrested three individuals in connection with the crime.
How the Partially Burnt Body Was Discovered
The police action was triggered on December 15, when they received information from the control room about an unidentified body lying near the railway track close to Durali village. Upon reaching the spot, officials found a partially burnt corpse. The body was taken into custody, and an investigation was immediately initiated, starting with a murder case against unknown persons.
Sohana Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Kumar stated that the breakthrough came during the probe when it was discovered that the deceased, Gurdeep Singh, and his brother, Sukhveer Singh, a resident of Sohana village, were frequently involved in domestic disputes.
The Fatal Argument and Murder
The investigation revealed that on the day of the incident, a heated argument erupted between the brothers over the issue of loud music. Enraged, Sukhveer Singh allegedly called his associates to the spot. In a brutal assault, he is accused of striking Gurdeep Singh on the head with a wooden log, killing him on the spot.
In a desperate bid to conceal the crime, the accused then transported the body to a secluded area near the railway line at Durali village and set it ablaze before fleeing the scene. However, their plan to destroy evidence was foiled as the body did not burn completely, leading to its discovery by a passerby.
Police Crack the Case and Arrests
Acting on clues, the police first arrested the main accused, Sukhveer Singh. During interrogation, he confessed to killing his brother with the help of his associates. Based on his statement, the police swiftly apprehended his two accomplices on the same day, December 15.
The other arrested accused have been identified as Gagandeep Singh, alias Gaggu, a resident of Amb Sahib Colony, Phase 11, Mohali, and Baljot Singh, alias Laddi, also a resident of Phase 11, Mohali.
A case was registered at the Sohana police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 103(1), 238 and 3(5). All three accused were produced before a district court, which remanded them in two days of police custody.
SHO Sunil Kumar added that the investigation is ongoing, and the recovery of the wooden log used as the murder weapon is yet to be made. The accused remain in police remand as the probe continues to uncover further details of this tragic fratricide.
