Bokaro shopkeeper loses Rs 5 lakh in car sale fraud

A shopkeeper in Bokaro lost Rs 5 lakh in an alleged car sale fraud after the accused collected the money in two installments over 20 days and disappeared.

Details of the Fraud

Officer in-charge of the Sector 6 police station Sangeeta Kumari said, “Kamlesh Kumar Jha, who runs a shop near the PNT More petrol pump, lodged an FIR on Tuesday after realising he had fallen victim to a fraud.”

Jha's Complaint
Jha, in his complaint, alleged that the accused visited his shop around 20 days ago and introduced himself as a resident of Sector-2. Subsequently, he frequently visited the shop in a car. The accused later proposed selling his car for Rs 5 lakh. Jha paid the accused Rs 2 lakh on June 8, police added.

Second Payment
Two days later, the accused asked Jha to clear the remaining Rs 3 lakh and assured him that the vehicle and its documents would be handed over immediately. Jha withdrew the amount from a bank and paid the accused at his shop. The accused then claimed that he was going to Sector-2 to fetch the vehicle papers but never returned, the OC added.

Police Investigation

After waiting for several days and finding the accused’s mobile phone switched off, Jha approached the police. “Efforts are under way to trace and arrest the accused. The last mobile location of the accused has been traced to Aurangabad district in Bihar,” police added.
