A series of tragic road accidents involving BMTC buses have claimed four lives in Bengaluru and Hoskote since Thursday night, leaving a family shattered and a community in mourning. The incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and reckless driving.
First Incident: Family of Three Killed in Hoskote
In a heart-wrenching accident on the Devanahalli-Sulibele Main Road in Hoskote, a couple and their two-year-old daughter were killed when a BMTC bus collided with their motorbike around 6pm on Friday. The victims were identified as daily-wage workers Arun Kumar, 32, and Anusha, 28, along with their daughter Arna. Their other daughter, five-year-old Anushika, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable.
According to police, Arun was riding the motorcycle with Anushika and Anusha on the pillion, while little Arna was seated on the petrol tank. The bus, which was coming from Devanahalli, crashed into them, causing fatal injuries. The bus driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Authorities are reviewing footage from the dashboard camera to determine if the bus was traveling in the wrong lane. The accident caused a traffic jam that lasted for about an hour.
Second Incident: Mason Killed in Jnanabharathi
In a separate incident on Thursday night, a 57-year-old mason named Raju K lost his life after a rashly driven BMTC electric bus ran him over at Manganahalli Cross in Jnanabharathi. Raju, a resident of Ullala and originally from Maddur in Mandya district, was fatally struck by the bus coming from Kengeri. The driver, identified as Sachin, has been booked on charges of causing death due to negligence.
The two accidents have sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better driver training. Police are investigating both cases and have urged witnesses to come forward.
