BMC team attacked in Goregaon East anti-hawker drive, FIR filed

An FIR was registered against three members of a family for attacking a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) team that was carrying out a drive against unauthorised hawkers in Goregaon East. The FIR was lodged based on a complaint from a BMC licence inspector.

Incident Details

On June 17, the BMC conducted a drive against illegal hawkers in Goregaon East according to a pre-decided schedule. Around 10 am, the team learned of an egg bhurji cart on the road near Santosh Nagar nullah and reached the spot within half an hour.

After confirming that the cart was illegal, the civic team removed it from the location and loaded it, along with a gas cylinder, into their vehicle. The hawkers using the cart arrived and began attacking and verbally abusing the BMC team. One team member sustained an injury near his eye and dialed the police emergency number 100.

Legal Action

The Dindoshi police arrived at the scene and registered a case against the hawkers: Salman Shaikh, 33; his older brother, Irfan Shaikh, 38; and their mother, Razia Shaikh, 62. They are accused of pelting eggs at the BMC team and retrieving their gas cylinder from the BMC vehicle.
