In a serious development in Ahmedabad, the Vasna police have initiated legal action against six individuals, including the nephew of a sitting BJP legislator, following the tragic suicide of a 30-year-old man. The charges include abetment to suicide and offences under the stringent SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
FIR Filed After Alleged Harassment Leads to Tragedy
The First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered on Monday, based on a complaint lodged by Kunal Solanki, the elder brother of the deceased, Ankit Solanki. Kunal alleged that the accused persons subjected his brother to sustained mental harassment over several weeks and issued threats to forcibly shut down the family's business establishment.
Confirming the case, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the SC/ST Cell, Roshni Solanki, stated that one of the six accused, Neel Thaker, is the nephew of BJP MLA Amit Thaker. She further added that all the accused are currently absconding and efforts are on to trace them.
Dispute Over Pan Shop at the Heart of the Conflict
According to the details mentioned in the FIR, the deceased Ankit Solanki and his brother Kunal jointly operated a shop named 'Gujjubhai Pan Palace' located at Shyamal Crossroads in Ahmedabad. The complaint reveals that the accused had been having frequent altercations with Ankit due to a prior dispute involving a relative.
The situation reportedly escalated when the accused were recently booked in a prohibition case, where the location of the offence was cited as the Solanki family's pan shop. This incident led to increased tensions and repeated confrontations between Ankit and the group of accused.
Kunal Solanki's statement in the FIR quotes him saying, "These boys wanted to shut down our shop and threatened to use the media to spoil our father's reputation." He emphasized that the relentless pressure took a severe toll on his brother's mental state, stating, "Ankit was mentally disturbed because of their harassment."
The Final Day and a Disturbing Message
The events took a grim turn on November 26. Ankit allegedly called his father and brother, asking them to meet him near Kankavati flats crossroads. During this meeting, he expressed his deep fear that the accused would frame him in a liquor-related case and succeed in closing their family shop.
Later that same afternoon, in a shocking move, one of the accused showed Kunal a message purportedly written by Ankit before his death. This message, which has been included as evidence in the FIR, stated that the accused had "made life unbearable" and mentally tortured him to a point where he "could no longer endure it."
Alarmed by the content of the message, Kunal rushed back home only to discover the worst. He found his brother, Ankit Solanki, deceased, having hanged himself from the ceiling on the second floor of their residence.
Police Search for Absconding Accused
The Vasna police have officially booked all six accused persons under relevant sections for abetment to suicide and the SC/ST Act. The individuals named in the FIR are Raj Sukhvasiya, Manav Thakkar, Mihir Desai, Umang Desai, Tirth Pradhan, and Neel Thaker.
As per the latest police update, all six are untraceable, and a search is underway to apprehend them. The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of a political figure's relative and the grave nature of the allegations, highlighting issues of harassment and intimidation faced by business owners.
