Key Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Operative Injured in Dramatic Patna Police Encounter
In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, a key operative of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang was injured during a police encounter in the Masaurhi area of Patna district early Thursday morning. The incident successfully thwarted what authorities believe was a major criminal conspiracy being orchestrated in the region.
High-Stakes Chase and Exchange of Fire
The injured accused has been identified as Parmanand Yadav, who police sources indicate serves as the Bihar in-charge for the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal syndicate. Intelligence suggests he maintains close associations with Rahul Singh in Jharkhand, another figure with established links to the infamous gang.
The dramatic encounter unfolded after the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and local police units received specific intelligence indicating that Parmanand had arrived in Patna with intentions to execute a significant criminal act. The operation intensified late Wednesday night when personnel from Beur police station apprehended several criminals, though one suspect—later confirmed to be Parmanand—managed to escape on a motorcycle, fleeing toward Jehanabad.
A high-speed pursuit covering several kilometres ensued before the suspect temporarily evaded capture. At approximately 4 AM on Thursday, Masaurhi police successfully surrounded the accused near Lala Bigha village along National Highway 22.
Violent Confrontation and Arrest
When police personnel attempted to stop his motorcycle, Parmanand allegedly accelerated in an effort to escape. During the ensuing chase, his vehicle skidded, causing him to fall. According to official accounts, the accused then opened fire at the pursuing police team, prompting retaliatory firing in what authorities describe as self-defence.
A bullet grazed Parmanand's leg during the exchange, resulting in injuries. Notably, no police personnel sustained harm during the confrontation. The injured accused was promptly taken into custody and transported to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for medical treatment.
Official Statements and Investigation Details
City SP (East) Parichay Kumar confirmed the sequence of events, explaining that after some criminals were arrested by Beur police station, one individual managed to escape on a motorcycle. "Beur police informed Masaurhi police that the criminal was heading towards Jehanabad. Upon receiving this critical information, we strategically deployed personnel at key locations," Kumar stated.
"During routine vehicle-checking operations, one suspicious person was observed fleeing on a motorcycle. When attempts were made to stop him, he fell from his bike. Subsequently, he initiated firing at police personnel. In legitimate self-defence and to ensure their safety, police responded with retaliatory firing, resulting in him being struck by one bullet in his leg. He was immediately taken for medical treatment," the senior police officer elaborated.
Criminal Background and Network Connections
According to investigative details, Parmanand Yadav hails from Chandwa village in Latehar district of Jharkhand. Police authorities have established his connections to Rahul Singh's gang, which maintains affiliations with Lawrence Bishnoi's criminal network. "There are strong suspicions that he was actively working to expand the infamous gang's operational network in this region. The matter remains under thorough investigation, with more details expected to emerge following intensive interrogation," Kumar added.
The accused faces an extensive criminal record, with more than 18–20 criminal cases registered against him across various jurisdictions. Investigators have also discovered that he recently traveled to Malaysia, though the purpose of this international trip remains under scrutiny.
Significant Recoveries and Additional Arrests
Law enforcement officials recovered the weapon used by the accused from the encounter site, while Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams collected crucial evidence for further analysis. In related developments, police have identified other arrested individuals as:
- Vicky alias Neeraj Kumar from Jehanabad
- Chandan from Jehanabad
- Shivam Anand from Lakhisarai
Recoveries from these associates included:
- One revolver
- Six cartridges
- Four mobile phones

- Nepali currency equivalent to Rs 5,110
From Parmanand Yadav specifically, police confiscated:

- An Aadhaar card
- A PAN card
Broader Criminal Network and Ongoing Operations
Preliminary interrogation has revealed Parmanand's connections to Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Badal Singh from Palamu and other individuals involved in systematic extortion activities targeting contractors and businessmen across Bihar and Jharkhand. Related extortion cases under investigation include incidents reported in Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Buxar districts.
STF officials confirmed that coordinated raids are currently underway in collaboration with Jharkhand Police to apprehend other accused individuals connected to this expanding criminal network. The successful operation represents a significant setback for organized crime elements attempting to establish stronger footholds in the region, while demonstrating improved inter-agency coordination and intelligence-sharing capabilities among law enforcement units.
