A horrific incident in Bijnor district has resulted in the death of a woman and left two others with critical injuries after two allegedly inebriated men deliberately ran their car over members of a family. The attack followed a heated argument over the men parking and drinking in front of the family's house.
Confrontation Over Parking and Drinking
The tragic event unfolded on Tuesday night in Mustafabad village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Shivala Kala police station. According to reports, two young men, later identified as Prashant Tomar and Rohit Rohit, both in their early twenties, parked their car in front of a house and began drinking alcohol. Their boisterous behavior and use of foul language prompted a family member, 25-year-old Ankit Kumar, to step outside and confront them.
Ankit asked the men to leave the premises. This led to a verbal altercation, which intensified as other members of the family came out of the house. Following the confrontation, the two accused initially fled the scene.
Deadly Retaliation with a Vehicle
However, the situation took a fatal turn when the men returned a short while later. This time, they drove their car at high speed directly towards the family members who had gathered outside their home. The vehicle ploughed through the group before anyone could fully react.
While the male members managed to jump to safety, three women could not escape in time. Maya Devi (50), Kela Devi (45), and another woman were struck by the speeding car and came under its wheels.
Aftermath and Police Action
The injured women were rushed to a nearby primary health centre. Given the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to a private hospital for advanced treatment. Tragically, Maya Devi succumbed to her injuries. The other two victims remain in a critical condition, fighting for their lives.
Law enforcement acted swiftly. Chandpur Circle Officer Desh Deepak Kumar stated that a case was registered on Tuesday night itself. The accused were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 115(2), 352, 351(2), 109, and 117(2), as well as under Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST Act. The police arrested both accused, Prashant Tomar and Rohit Rohit, on Wednesday and seized the car used in the crime.
DSP Kumar further confirmed that with the death of Maya Devi, additional charges under the BNS are being included in the First Information Report (FIR). The investigation is ongoing to ascertain all details of this shocking crime.
