Bihar train shooting: Man shot for resisting robbery

In a tragic incident, a 37-year-old man was shot by armed miscreants on a moving train in Bihar's Khagaria district after he resisted an attempt to snatch his valuables. The victim was rushed to a government hospital in Khagaria in a serious condition. Sensing his seriousness, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Begusarai where his condition was stated to be stable now.

Incident Details

According to Katihar superintendent of rail police Hari Shankar Kumar, the incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday near Badlaghat railway station on the Mansi-Saharsa section under Samastipur division of the East Central Railway (ECR). The victim, identified as Dev Kumar Gunjan, a resident of Godda in Jharkhand, was travelling in the general coach of the weekly Amritsar–Narpatganj Jansadharan Express (14604) to Supaul when armed men allegedly tried to loot him, he said, adding surprisingly the miscreants targeted him alone in the coach.

Gunjan, who received a gunshot injury in his chest, was going to Supaul where his wife Ashmita Kumari is posted as motor vehicle inspector (MVI). Preliminary inquiry revealed that Gunjan is an employee of the Jamui-based Malaypur power grid where his wife also worked prior to her selection as MVI in Supaul in 2024, rail SP said, adding police investigations are underway from all possible angles including any old enmity.
