Bihar Police Constable Found Dead in Supaul Block Office Washroom
A tragic incident has shaken the police force in Bihar, as a 22-year-old female constable was discovered dead in a washroom on the premises of the Kishanpur block office in Supaul district. The event occurred on Saturday night, casting a shadow over festival security operations in the region.
Details of the Deceased and Incident
The deceased has been identified as Ritu Kumari, daughter of Jitendra Prasad Gupta and a resident of Patkhouli village under the Sikarhatta police station area of Bhojpur district. Ritu, who joined the police force in 2025, was the third of four siblings and was posted in Muzaffarpur district. She had arrived in Supaul on March 19 along with other women police personnel to assist in maintaining law and order during the Eid and Ram Navami festivals.
According to police reports, the washroom where she was found hanging was not in regular use and contained election-related materials. Her colleagues stated that Ritu entered the washroom, mentioning she was going to take a bath. When she did not return for an extended period, they checked on her and found her hanging from a noose. They immediately informed Kishanpur SHO Gyan Ranjan Kumar, and the body was transported to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police Investigation and Background
Upon receiving the information, senior officials including Kosi range DIG Ashish Kumar, Supaul SP Sarath R S, and DSP Shivendra Kumar rushed to the scene. The body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination. Evidence was collected from the spot, and a suicide note was recovered from the pocket of the deceased. The note cited personal reasons and depression as factors behind the extreme step, according to the SHO.
This was not the first time Ritu had attempted suicide; she had previously tried during her training at Bhimnagar but was saved after another constable noticed her in time. Police revealed that around 90 women constables had been deployed for festival duty and were staying at the Sabha Bhawan on the block office premises.
Context and Implications
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about mental health and stress within the police force, particularly among young recruits. It also raises questions about the support systems available for personnel deployed in high-pressure situations such as festival security. Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
