Bhopal: Teen dies after SUV hits bike, drags him 20 metres

A tragic hit-and-run incident in an upscale Bhopal neighbourhood has claimed the life of an 18-year-old college student, sending shockwaves through the community. The fatal accident occurred near Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's residence in the Shyamla Hills area on Wednesday afternoon.

Details of the Tragic Collision

Around 1 pm on Wednesday, Asif Hussain, a first-year college student, was returning to his home in Talaiya's Amina Apartment via Polytechnic Square and Kilol Park. As he reached the front of the Kilol Park petrol pump, a speeding SUV coming from behind violently rammed his motorcycle.

The impact was so severe that Asif and his two-wheeler became entangled with the SUV's bumper. The driver did not stop immediately, dragging the young man and his bike for a distance of nearly 20 metres along the road. This caused critical, life-threatening injuries to the teen.

Failed Escape and Police Action

Alert passersby quickly called for an ambulance and rushed the critically injured youth to Hamidia Hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on the way and was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

Meanwhile, the SUV driver attempted to flee the scene. However, a swift police response led to the vehicle being intercepted and seized near the Retghat police outpost on VIP Road. The driver was apprehended and taken into custody.

The Shyamla Hills police have registered a case against the driver for causing death by negligence. The offending vehicle has been impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.

Aftermath and Community Grief

Following standard procedure, the victim's body was sent for a post-mortem examination. After the autopsy, the mortal remains of Asif Hussain were handed over to his grieving family.

The incident has highlighted grave road safety concerns in a prominent area of the state capital. The fact that the accident occurred in the vicinity of the Chief Minister's residence has added a significant dimension to the case, drawing greater public and administrative attention to the need for stricter traffic enforcement.

Police officials have confirmed that further investigation into the exact speed of the vehicle, the driver's condition, and other circumstances is currently underway.
