In a shocking incident from Bhopal, a 48-year-old labourer was brutally murdered in the early hours of Tuesday, with the prime suspect attempting to disguise the killing as a tragic road accident. The crime, rooted in a history of personal taunts and a family tragedy, was unraveled by the Kolar police through meticulous investigation.
The Grisly Discovery and the False Alarm
Around 3 am on Tuesday, the Dial-112 First Response Vehicle (FRV) team in Bhopal received a distressing call. The caller reported that a man had been run over by an unknown vehicle near a liquor shop in Sarvdharm Colony, Kolar. Responding swiftly, the FRV crew reached the spot and found a lifeless body. They immediately informed the Kolar police station.
However, upon arrival, police officials, led by Kolar Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Soni, found the scene highly suspicious. "There were no skid marks, no debris from a vehicle, and absolutely no signs indicative of a road accident," stated SHO Soni. The victim had sustained severe head injuries that were inconsistent with a vehicular hit-and-run but pointed towards a violent assault. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team later confirmed the man was murdered.
Unmasking the Victim and the Killer
With no immediate identification, police circulated the deceased's details on social media and activated their network of informers. The victim was soon identified as Kanhaiya Singh Lodhi, 48, a resident of Abbas Nagar in Gandhi Nagar. Kanhaiya, who worked as a labourer, was known to frequent the area near the liquor shop in Sarvdharm Colony and often slept on the footpaths there at night.
Once the accident theory was firmly ruled out, investigators turned their attention to the original caller. By tracing the mobile phone location of the person who made the Dial-112 call, police detained Nitesh Vishwakarma alias Nanna, 25, a resident of Damkheda in Kolar.
During interrogation, Nitesh persistently tried to mislead the police, sticking to his fabricated story of an accident. However, his claims fell apart under sustained questioning and when contradicted by CCTV footage retrieved from the vicinity.
A Motive Born from Tragedy and Taunts
The investigation revealed a dark backstory. Nitesh and the deceased Kanhaiya had known each other for the past one or two years. Both worked as labourers and had become acquainted after meeting at the same liquor shop, even sharing drinks in the past.
The motive for the murder, however, was deeply personal. Police discovered that Nitesh's sister had died by suicide a few years ago by self-immolation. It was alleged that Kanhaiya would frequently taunt and provoke Nitesh over this tragic incident, cruelly referring to his late sister as "characterless." Enraged by these repeated jibes, Nitesh finally snapped. In the early hours of Tuesday, he allegedly bludgeoned Kanhaiya to death outside the liquor shop and then orchestrated the fake accident call in a desperate bid to cover his tracks.
The Kolar police have now registered a case and the accused remains in custody as the investigation proceeds to build a solid case for prosecution. The incident highlights how unresolved personal grievances and verbal provocation can escalate into extreme violence.
