Bhopal Influencer Shot At, Held Hostage by Ex-Boyfriend

A shocking incident of attempted murder and hostage-taking unfolded in Bhopal on Sunday evening, targeting a popular social media influencer. The accused, her former boyfriend, allegedly held her at gunpoint inside a marriage garden, assaulted her, and even fired a pistol shot in a terrifying escalation of violence.

Dramatic Police Rescue in Chhola

The Chhola Police acted swiftly after receiving a distress call on Sunday evening. The information indicated that a woman was being held captive at pistol point inside a marriage garden located in the Chhola area of the city. A police team immediately rushed to the venue.

As the officers were at the location, the situation turned critically serious when a loud gunshot was heard from inside the garden premises. This prompted the police to carefully approach the balcony area and call out to the accused from outside the room.

After some time, the accused, identified as 32-year-old Jai Dubey, opened the door and surrendered with his hands raised. The police team then secured him and seized the weapon used in the crime—a country-made, unlicensed pistol—along with the spent bullet shell. The bullet had missed the woman and embedded itself in a wall.

Background of a Troubled Relationship

Initial investigation by the police revealed a history of conflict between the victim and the accused. Jai Dubey, a resident of Ratnagiri who hails from Damoh and works as a property broker, was previously in a relationship with the woman.

The couple had separated following a dispute. However, Dubey allegedly continued to harass the woman and pressured her to marry him after their break-up. The woman had previously filed a formal complaint against him at the Ayodhya Nagar police station due to this persistent harassment.

On the day of the incident, the woman, a social media influencer, had visited the marriage garden with friends for a video shoot. Upon learning of her whereabouts, Jai Dubey arrived at the venue, forcibly confined her to a room, and assaulted her.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

The accused allegedly fired the pistol with the intention of intimidating the woman and attempting to kill her. Fortunately, the bullet did not hit its intended target. The victim sustained minor injuries from the physical assault but managed to escape more serious harm.

Police have taken Jai Dubey into custody and are conducting a thorough interrogation. A case has been registered under serious charges of attempt to murder. Additionally, relevant sections of the Arms Act have been invoked in the case due to the use of an unlicensed, country-made firearm.

Investigation Officer SI MD Ahirwar confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the prompt police response led to the accused's surrender and the recovery of the weapon. The woman received medical attention for her minor injuries.
