Bhopal: 77-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Lift Shaft After 10 Days Missing
The body of a 77-year-old man was discovered in the lift duct of his residential building in Bhopal's Misrod area on Friday. This grim find came nearly ten days after he first went missing from his home.
Discovery by Maintenance Staff
Lift maintenance workers made the shocking discovery. They were called to the building to repair the non-functional lift. A strong foul smell led them to inspect the lift shaft. There, they found the body lying in the duct.
The deceased was identified as Pritam Giri, a 77-year-old resident of Chinar Dream City in Misrod. He had left his home on January 6 around 3 pm and never returned. His family conducted extensive searches before filing a missing person report with the Misrod police.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
Police responded quickly to the scene. They registered a case and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary inquiries reveal that Pritam Giri lived on the third floor of the building.
Investigators suspect a tragic accident. They believe he may have opened the lift door while the elevator car was stationed on an upper floor. This could have caused him to fall into the empty shaft below. The lift had been out of order since around the time he disappeared.
However, police emphasize that the exact cause of death remains undetermined. They await the detailed post-mortem report and a complete technical investigation. Further inquiries are currently underway.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community. It highlights concerns about building safety and lift maintenance. The Misrod police continue their probe into this unfortunate incident.
