Bhopal Students' Crime Spree Ends with Public's Help
In a dramatic turn of events in Bhopal, two students currently enrolled in Class 12 found themselves behind bars after a failed escape attempt led to their capture. The incident unfolded near the Board Office Square when the motorcycle they were riding slipped, allowing alert members of the public to apprehend them. This citizen intervention proved crucial in cracking a series of mobile snatching cases that have been plaguing the city.
The Saturday Night Snatching and Police Action
The chain of events began on Saturday, December 20, around 10:30 pm. The victim, Dr. Mohit Singh Baghel, a 26-year-old veterinary doctor from Bhind district, was walking with a colleague from MP Nagar towards Rani Kamalapati railway station. As they passed near Bansal One, two youths on a black sports bike without a registration number pushed him and snatched the mobile phone he was holding.
Dr. Baghel promptly filed a formal complaint at the Habibganj police station against unidentified assailants. Acting swiftly, the police analyzed the complainant's statement and scoured CCTV footage from the area. This evidence helped identify the suspects and launch a targeted search operation. Following a specific tip-off, the police successfully took both accused into custody.
Confession and Recovery of Stolen Goods
During interrogation, the two youths confessed to their crimes. Police officials revealed that the duo was responsible for not just one, but three separate mobile phone snatching incidents all occurring on that same Saturday. Their crime spree was cut short by their arrest.
From their possession, the police successfully recovered all three snatched mobile phones. The total estimated value of the recovered devices is a substantial Rs 2.5 lakh. Furthermore, the black sports motorcycle used to commit these crimes was also seized. Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals were also linked to two other earlier mobile snatching cases in different parts of the city.
A Growing Menace in the City
This arrest highlights a persistent issue faced by Bhopal residents. For several months, the city has witnessed a worrying rise in mobile snatching cases, causing concern among citizens and challenging law enforcement. The successful resolution of this case, aided by public vigilance, serves as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation in combating street crime. The police continue to investigate the broader network and patterns behind such incidents.
