In a decisive move against the illegal trade and use of hazardous kite strings, the Subhash Nagar police station in Bhilwara city conducted a major operation on Monday. The action led to the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of a large cache of banned Chinese manjha.
Police Crackdown on Illegal Manjha Network
Acting on specific intelligence, a special team was formed under the directives of Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh. The team, led by Subhash Nagar station incharge Kailash Kumar Bishnoi, uncovered a network where enthusiasts were not only flying kites with the dangerous string but also actively involved in its online procurement and sale.
Kailash Kumar Bishnoi stated that the police identified and took action against three sellers, two buyers, and two individuals who were flying kites using the prohibited material. In total, six people were arrested in connection with the case.
Massive Haul of Dangerous Material
The police recovery from the operation was substantial, highlighting the scale of the illegal activity. The seized items included:
- 54 large spools of Chinese manjha
- 54 light spools
- 22 mono spools
- 74 small spools
Additionally, the authorities confiscated a hand-operated manjha winding machine, which was being used to prepare the deadly threads for sale and use. The total count of spools seized exceeded 150.
Protecting Lives and Enforcing the Ban
Officer Bishnoi emphasized the grave dangers posed by the Chinese manjha, noting that its use has proven fatal for birds and passers-by. The sharp, non-biodegradable string causes severe injuries and deaths to avian life and poses a significant threat to people, especially two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
The police action is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the banned material is completely eradicated from the local markets. Meanwhile, environmentalists and animal welfare advocates in Bhilwara have renewed their appeal to kite flyers. They strongly urge the community to switch to traditional cotton threads, asserting that a little caution and responsible choice can go a long way in protecting innocent lives.
This crackdown sends a strong message about the enforcement of the ban on Chinese manjha, prioritizing public safety and wildlife conservation in the region.
