As Bengaluru prepares to welcome 2024, the city's police force is implementing an unprecedented security operation to ensure celebrations are safe and incident-free. A massive contingent of 20,000 police personnel will be deployed across crucial locations, including major roads, popular party zones, and residential neighborhoods on the night of December 31.
AI and Technology Take Center Stage in Surveillance
Marking a significant shift from previous years, the police will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance their monitoring capabilities. This advanced system will analyze real-time footage from the city's extensive network of CCTV cameras, allowing for quicker identification of potential disturbances or suspicious activities. Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh emphasized that these special measures are designed to bolster public safety comprehensively.
Enhanced Safety for App-Based Commuters
A key focus of this year's security plan is the safety of women and all citizens using app-based cabs and auto-rickshaws. In a proactive move, an emergency button has been integrated directly into ride-booking applications. Users in distress can simply open the app and select the 'contact 112' option. "Our staff at the command centre will immediately connect with the caller and dispatch the nearest patrolling vehicles to the location," Commissioner Singh explained.
Additionally, the public is encouraged to download the official Karnataka State Police (KSP) app and utilize its 'Safe Connect' feature. This innovative tool enables users to establish a live video call with the police command centre. "Safe Connect allows us to assess the situation visually and respond more effectively and swiftly," Singh added, highlighting how technology is creating a more direct lifeline to assistance.
A Call for Responsible Celebrations
Beyond enforcement and response, the police are also initiating a public awareness campaign. In a bid to encourage responsible celebration, an online campaign will be launched on December 22. This initiative aims to remind revelers of their role in maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment for everyone as the city rings in the New Year under a tight, tech-enabled security blanket.
