Bengaluru Woman Files Cyber Crime Complaint Over Secret Filming and Blackmail at Stadium
A 32-year-old woman from Yelahanka, Bengaluru, has come forward with a disturbing allegation of being secretly filmed while using the restroom at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium. The incident occurred during the Women's Throwball and Cricket (WTC) tournament, held from February 6 to 8, and has escalated into a severe case of blackmail.
Details of the Incident and Blackmail Threats
According to the complaint filed with the Cyber Crime police on February 13, the victim was targeted on the second day of the tournament. An unknown individual allegedly filmed her in the women's restroom without her consent. The situation worsened when the miscreant mistakenly contacted the victim's friend on Instagram, believing the account belonged to the victim. Upon seeing the illicit video and photos, the friend immediately alerted the victim.
The blackmailer then began threatening the victim directly, demanding money and insisting on private video calls. He further claimed to possess additional private videos and threatened to release them if his demands were not met. The threats extended to the victim's friend as well, with the blackmailer warning that the video would be circulated on various social media platforms and made public, causing significant reputational damage.
Impact on the Victim and Ongoing Investigation
The victim reported experiencing immense mental distress and reputational harm due to the sharing of the video and the relentless demands for more content. She remains uncertain whether she or her friend was the intended target, as the blackmail continued against both individuals. The case has been officially registered, and a thorough probe is currently underway by the Cyber Crime police to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
This incident highlights the growing concerns over cybercrime and women's safety in public spaces, particularly during large events. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
