As part of a dedicated crime prevention month, uniformed officers are making late-evening rounds to residential homes. The timing is strategic. "We go at night so that all members of a household are available," explained an officer involved in the exercise. Each team comprises 15 officers, led by two police sub-inspectors and includes women personnel, ensuring a comprehensive and approachable presence.
The initiative, known internally as "area domination," focuses on building police visibility and public trust. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarah Fathima stated that these interactions aim to create awareness on crime prevention and share essential guidelines for New Year celebrations. She highlighted that residents have been particularly inquisitive about cyber fraud, leading officers to explain how cybercriminals operate and the necessary precautions families should take.
Beyond Policing: Addressing Civic Concerns
The doorstep discussions have extended far beyond just crime alerts. Residents have used the opportunity to voice a range of civic issues, transforming the visits into impromptu feedback sessions. Key concerns raised include:

- Persistent garbage disposal problems.

Parallel to the neighbourhood visits, Bengaluru police have intensified inspections across the city's temporary accommodations. This includes regular checks at lodges, hotels, paying guest facilities, and service apartments. Officers are verifying occupant details, with special attention on recent arrivals to the city.
A senior officer clarified the dual purpose of these checks: "They help us identify whether any suspicious elements are staying in the city, and they also act as a deterrent as anti-social elements become aware of regular police checks." Furthermore, house owners renting to foreign nationals have been strictly instructed to submit tenant details to their local police stations without fail.
