Major Fire Erupts at Bengaluru Mattress and Sofa Manufacturing Unit
A significant accidental fire broke out early Sunday morning at a mattress and sofa manufacturing unit combined with a godown in Gollahalli village, located in the Anjanapura area on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The incident sent thick plumes of smoke billowing across the vicinity, triggering widespread panic among local residents.
Injuries Reported and Response Efforts
The fire resulted in injuries to two individuals: a fire and emergency services responder and a mini goods vehicle driver. Both sustained injuries during the incident and are currently undergoing medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that they are out of danger, although police have stated that their identities are yet to be officially confirmed.
The blaze at Grace Traders was first reported around 8:20 AM, with fire officials receiving an alert at 8:40 AM. In response, a substantial deployment was made, involving nine vehicles and approximately 70 personnel, including 10 officers. The firefighting efforts were intensive, with the fire being brought under control by noon and fully extinguished by 3:30 PM.
Extensive Damage and Impact on Adjacent Building
The manufacturing unit, which spans an area of roughly 200 by 100 square feet, suffered extensive damage due to the fire. Flames spread to the nearby Platinum Gardenia apartment complex, causing significant harm, including shattered windowpanes on four floors. As a precautionary measure, residents of the apartment building were evacuated promptly. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from within the complex.
Details of the Injuries and Investigation
The mini goods vehicle driver was inside the premises when the fire erupted and sustained injuries while attempting to escape the blaze. Meanwhile, the fire services personnel was injured during the operations when water splashed back from burning materials, highlighting the hazardous conditions faced by responders.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, with initial suspicions pointing to a transformer located between the unit and the apartment complex. Additionally, an electrical fault within the manufacturing unit itself is being examined as a potential factor. The electrical inspector's report is currently awaited to provide further clarity on the origin of the fire.
Ongoing Assessments and Legal Actions
Police have indicated that the total loss from the fire is yet to be assessed, and a formal case will be registered once the investigation progresses. The incident underscores the risks associated with industrial units in residential areas and the importance of stringent safety measures.
