Bengaluru Dental Student Suicide: Mother Accuses Lecturers

Bengaluru Dental Student's Death Sparks Police Case Against Lecturers

A tragic incident in Bengaluru has led to serious allegations against college staff. Yashaswini B, a 23-year-old dental student, was found hanging in her bedroom recently. Her mother, G Pramila, has now accused six lecturers of driving her daughter to suicide.

Police Register New FIR Based on Mother's Complaint

Initially, police registered a case of unnatural death. However, on Sunday, Pramila submitted a fresh complaint. She detailed sustained harassment by lecturers at Oxford Dental College on Hosur Road. This prompted police to file a new case.

Suryanagar police in Bengaluru Rural district registered a zero FIR. They have transferred it to Bommanahalli police for investigation. The accused lecturers face charges under BNS Section 108 for abetment to suicide.

Six Lecturers Named in the FIR

The FIR specifically names six individuals:

  • Dr Anmol
  • Dr Alba
  • Dr Shabana
  • Dr Faika
  • Dr Sindhu
  • Dr Sushmini

All six work as lecturers at Oxford Dental College. Police will investigate their alleged role in the student's death.

Suicide Note and Mother's Claims

Yashaswini left behind a suicide note. It stated she alone was responsible for her death. The note claimed no one else should be blamed. Authorities have sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory. Experts will verify if the handwriting matches Yashaswini's.

Despite the note's contents, Pramila insists her daughter faced continuous harassment. She claims the lecturers targeted Yashaswini over the past year. The alleged harassment included frequent reprimands for arriving minutes late to class. Lecturers also reportedly criticized her dressing style.

Alleged Academic Harassment and Personal Attacks

According to the complaint, Yashaswini did not respond to these remarks. In retaliation, lecturers allegedly awarded her lower marks in seminars. Pramila says her daughter repeatedly confided in her about the distress. She shared details of insults faced at college with her mother.

Pramila provided specific incidents. A day before her death on January 8, Yashaswini suffered eye pain. She skipped classes due to this medical issue. When she returned to college, lecturers allegedly insulted her in front of classmates. They even questioned her about the medicines she had taken.

The complaint contains more disturbing allegations. Lecturers reportedly made remarks about Yashaswini's skin color. They questioned her suitability to become a doctor. One particularly cruel question asked why she wanted to pursue the profession "with this face."

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

This case has shaken the educational community in Bengaluru. Students and parents are expressing concern about institutional accountability. Police continue their investigation into the allegations. They will examine all evidence, including the suicide note and witness statements.

The college administration has not made any public statements yet. However, the serious nature of the allegations demands thorough scrutiny. Many await further developments in this heartbreaking case.
