A routine night shift turned into a terrifying ordeal for a cab driver in Bengaluru after four unidentified men forced their way into his vehicle, robbed him of his mobile phones, and drove away with his car on June 1. The police later traced the vehicle using its GPS location.
Incident Details
According to a complaint filed by S Manu, a resident of Kittaganahalli, the incident occurred around 12:40am near the HP Company gate at Konappana Agrahara in Electronics City. Manu, who owns the Maruti Swift Dzire (registration number KA-16-AB-3224), recently began working as a night-shift driver for employees of the tech company.
On the night of June 1, he picked up a woman employee from the company along with a security guard and dropped her near KR Pura bridge. While returning to the company to pick up other employees, Manu felt sleepy and stopped the car for tea near the company premises. As he was about to get back into his vehicle along with the security guard, four miscreants claimed they urgently needed a ride and forcibly got into the car, leaving the guard on the road.
The Robbery
Moments after boarding the vehicle, they allegedly forced Manu to drive through various areas, including Doddathoguru, Neeladri Nagar, and Electronics City. During the ride, they threatened to attack him with an iron rod. A miscreant sitting next to Manu robbed him of his two phones and demanded their passwords. The miscreants searched his pockets but did not find any cash. They examined the apps on the phones and forced him to reveal the PIN numbers of his digital payment applications before directing him to stop the car near Margondanahalli.
Escape and Recovery
Manu managed to break free and ran towards a nearby apartment, where he sought help from a guard. He called his supervisor and asked him to track the vehicle's GPS. He found the car was moving towards Bommasandra Industrial Area. When Manu and his friend reached the location, they found the company supervisor, other cab drivers, and police near the vehicle. The supervisor told him the miscreants had abandoned the vehicle and fled after noticing they were being tracked.
Manu's car was recovered, but the suspects are still on the run, police said.
