A 35-year-old motorist was assaulted with an iron rod by a cab driver in Bengaluru's BTM Layout on Saturday evening after the victim honked to ask the cab to move. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm near the BTM Layout police station.
Altercation over Honking Escalates
The victim, identified as Ravi Kumar, was driving his two-wheeler when he encountered a cab blocking his path. He honked to alert the driver, which led to a heated argument. The cab driver, later identified as 28-year-old Mahesh, allegedly pulled out an iron rod from his vehicle and struck Kumar multiple times.
Kumar sustained injuries on his left arm and back. Passersby intervened and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Police Action and Investigation
BTM Layout police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Mahesh has been taken into custody. According to police sources, the accused claimed he lost his temper due to the persistent honking.
"We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action. The accused has been arrested," said a police officer from BTM Layout police station.
This incident highlights the growing issue of road rage in Bengaluru. In a similar case last month, a delivery executive was attacked over a minor traffic dispute in the same area.
