Bengaluru ACP Arrested by Lokayukta for Taking Rs 30,000 Bribe from Hotel
Bengaluru ACP Arrested for Rs 30,000 Bribe

In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Lokayukta police in Bengaluru trapped and arrested an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe. The senior officer was caught red-handed while taking the illicit payment.

ACP Caught Red-Handed Near Office

The accused officer has been identified as ACP Krishnamurthy, who was serving as the head of the Malleswaram sub-division. According to officials from the Lokayukta, the arrest took place near his office where he was accepting Rs 30,000 from a hotel manager. This amount was part of a larger demand he had made.

The Bribe Demand for Late-Night Operations

The case originated from a complaint filed by the owner of Sagar Hotel located on Dr Rajkumar Road. The police officer had allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 50,000 from the hotelier. In exchange for this payment, the ACP promised to permit the hotel to continue its business operations beyond the 1 am deadline. The Lokayukta team laid a trap after the hotel owner approached them, leading to the officer's capture while accepting a partial payment of Rs 30,000.

Ongoing Investigation and Implications

This arrest highlights the continued vigilance of Karnataka's anti-corruption watchdog. The Lokayukta police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the matter. Such actions send a strong message against corruption within the police force. The incident raises serious questions about the misuse of power for personal gain and the challenges faced by small business owners. The accused ACP is expected to face strict legal consequences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
