Baran woman killed by husband with axe after dispute

Kota: A woman was hacked to death with an axe by her husband following a domestic dispute in Nareda village under Sarthal police station area of Baran district on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, police said. The accused fled after the crime and remains absconding, they added.

Incident Details

Sarthal police station SHO Dharmpal Yadav said the accused, identified as Dharmraj Lodha, attacked his wife Leeladevi (30) with an axe while under the influence of alcohol, killing her on the spot. At the time of the incident, Dharmraj’s parents were sleeping in another room of the house, while the couple’s three children were staying over at their aunt’s house in a nearby village.

Police Investigation

Police were informed of the incident by the accused’s parents early Monday morning. Initial investigations revealed that Dharmraj, a daily wage labourer, was addicted to alcohol and frequently quarreled with his wife. Police said Dharamraj flew into a fit of rage after another such quarrel Sunday night, after which he attacked his wife with an axe before fleeing.

Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s brother, and a manhunt remains ongoing for Dharamraj. The victim’s body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem.
