Bar Council Elections Conclude Peacefully in Karnal and Kaithal Districts
The elections for members of the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council concluded peacefully on Wednesday across the districts of Karnal and Kaithal, with advocates participating enthusiastically in the democratic process. Officials confirmed that the polling was conducted in a transparent, well-coordinated, and peaceful manner, thanks to active cooperation from the legal community.
High Voter Turnout in Both Districts
In Karnal, a significant number of advocates exercised their franchise, with 2,590 out of 3,247 registered voters casting their ballots. Similarly, in Kaithal, 1,533 out of 1,805 registered advocates participated in the voting. This high turnout reflects the keen interest of the legal fraternity in shaping their representative body.
Candidates and Campaigns
Six candidates from Karnal district are in the fray for the Bar Council elections, while three candidates from Kaithal are contesting for the post of member. Apart from local contenders, candidates from Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab also appealed to voters to support their campaigns, highlighting the regional significance of these elections.
Smooth Polling Process and Security Measures
Karnal Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh reported that the polling process remained smooth from 9 am to 5 pm, with visible enthusiasm at all polling centres. Adequate security arrangements were made to ensure hassle-free voting, and special nodal officers were appointed to monitor the election process closely.
Polling Centres and Logistics in Kaithal
Kaithal Deputy Commissioner Aparajita detailed that four polling centres were set up to facilitate voting. At the Kaithal Bar Association office, three booths were established, where 1,402 out of 1,659 registered advocates cast their votes. Meanwhile, at the Guhla Bar Association, one booth was set up on the first floor, where 131 out of 146 voters exercised their franchise. To ensure the smooth conduct of elections, six polling parties—including four main teams and two reserve teams—were deployed, with nodal officers overseeing the entire process.
The successful conclusion of these elections underscores the commitment of the legal community to democratic principles and sets a positive precedent for future electoral events in the region.
