In a swift and decisive operation, the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district apprehended a man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl within a mere seven hours of the crime being reported. The dramatic arrest was preceded by an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and a police patrol team.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

The incident unfolded in the jurisdiction of the Ubhaon police station. According to officials, the crime occurred on Thursday evening. Acting on the report, police teams were immediately mobilized to track down the perpetrator.

The breakthrough came around 12:35 am on Friday when a team on night patrol near Mubarakpur Road spotted an individual acting suspiciously. As the police moved to surround him, the man, in a desperate attempt to evade capture, opened fire on the officers.

Encounter and Recovery of Illegal Weapon

In what the police described as retaliatory action in self-defence, the party returned fire. The suspect was hit by a bullet in his right leg during this exchange. He was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody.

Upon interrogation, he was identified as Sablu Rajbhar, a resident of Mujauna village under the Ubhaon police station area. During questioning, Rajbhar allegedly confessed to committing the rape of the minor girl on Thursday evening. He was already a wanted accused in the case registered at the local police station.

Circle Officer of Rasra, Alok Kumar Gupta, confirmed the details. A search of the arrested man led to the recovery of an illegal 0.315 bore pistol, one empty cartridge, and one live cartridge.

Ongoing Treatment and Legal Proceedings

The injured accused is currently undergoing medical treatment at Sadar Hospital in Ballia. His condition is reported to be stable. The police have stated that all necessary legal procedures are being followed rigorously in the case.

The minor survivor was promptly admitted to a hospital for treatment and care following the traumatic incident. The police's rapid response, leading to the arrest within hours of the crime, has been highlighted as a key aspect of this operation.
