Bagalkot Police Arrest 5-Member Gang for House Thefts

In a significant breakthrough, Bagalkot district police have successfully apprehended a gang of five individuals, including two women, who are allegedly responsible for a series of house thefts in Bagalkot and the neighbouring Gadag districts. The arrests mark a crucial step in curbing inter-district criminal activities in the region.

Details of the Arrested Accused

The accused have been identified as Shankar Pawar, aged 20; Abhi Bosle, 19; Laxmi Bosle, 40; Karan Pawar, 20; and Mamata Bosle, 21. All five are residents of Mangarul tanda in Parbani district, Maharashtra, highlighting the cross-border nature of their criminal operations.

Modus Operandi of the Gang

Investigations conducted by the police revealed a dual lifestyle adopted by the gang members. During the day, they worked in sugarcane fields, blending in with the local agricultural workforce. However, under the cover of darkness, they transformed into burglars, targeting homes in Bagalkot and Gadag districts.

According to officials from the Guledagudda police, who were instrumental in apprehending the gang, the members wore jackets and masks to conceal their identities during their nocturnal raids. They were equipped with torches and rods, which they used to break into houses and carry out thefts.

Confessions and Recoveries

The gang has confessed to being involved in six house theft cases across the two districts. In a significant recovery, police have seized gold jewellery worth Rs 6.1 lakh from the accused. The investigation uncovered that while the men executed the thefts, the women played a key role in selling the stolen jewellery during the day, facilitating the disposal of looted items.

This arrest underscores the diligent efforts of the Bagalkot police in tackling property crimes and ensuring the safety of residents in the area. The case serves as a reminder of the innovative methods employed by criminals and the importance of vigilant law enforcement.
