Azamgarh Police Cracks Down on Counterfeit Currency Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Raunapar police in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, have successfully dismantled a gang involved in printing and circulating fake currency. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of counterfeit cash totaling Rs 1.19 lakh, along with various printing equipment and other incriminating items.
Details of the Police Operation
Acting on a credible tip-off, police teams, under the leadership of Station House Officer (SHO) Mantosh Singh, conducted a swift raid near Tekanpur Puliya. The authorities intercepted a white car and apprehended six suspects on the spot. The arrested individuals have been identified as Nitin Singh alias Bhola, Rishikesh Singh alias Shani, Abhishek Singh alias Kanha, Aditya Singh alias Chanki, Shivam Singh alias Vidur, and Munna Pandey. These individuals are alleged to have been actively involved in the illicit trade of counterfeit currency.
To ensure the operation's success, the area was effectively cordoned off by three dedicated police teams, preventing any escape attempts. Following the initial arrests, police leveraged the information obtained to track down and arrest two additional suspects, Manoj Kumar and Rudra Pandey, from Jagdishpur village. These arrests also led to the recovery of the equipment used in the production of the fake notes.
Seized Items and Gang's Modus Operandi
The police confiscated a range of items crucial to the gang's operations. These include a laptop, a printer, a car, and seven mobile phones. Azamgarh SP (Rural) Chirag Jain provided insights into the gang's sophisticated methods during a press briefing. According to Jain, the mastermind of the operation, identified as Manish Mishra, who remains at large, printed the counterfeit notes on standard A4-size paper. These sheets were then meticulously trimmed using a paper cutter to replicate the exact dimensions of genuine Indian currency notes.
The gang employed a cunning strategy to evade detection: they would mix the counterfeit notes with authentic currency and introduce them into local markets, shops, and various transactions. This blending technique made it exceptionally challenging for the average person to distinguish the fake notes from real ones, thereby facilitating their circulation without immediate suspicion.

The arrested gang members have reportedly cooperated with the investigation, providing details about their illicit activities. Police authorities are now intensifying their efforts to locate and apprehend other members associated with this network, including the alleged mastermind, Manish Mishra. This crackdown highlights the vigilance of the Azamgarh police in combating financial crimes and protecting the integrity of the local economy from such fraudulent practices.
