Azamgarh Court Jails Mafia Don Akhand Pratap Singh for 3 Years in Contempt Case
Azamgarh Court Sentences Mafia to 3 Years in Jail

A district court in Azamgarh has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a state-level identified mafia figure to three years of rigorous imprisonment for deliberately flouting court orders. The convicted individual, Akhand Pratap Singh, was also slapped with a fine of Rs 7,000.

The Contempt of Court Case and Conviction

The conviction stems from a case of contempt of court and absconding despite legal proclamations. According to prosecution records, the matter began on September 19, 2019, when Sub-Inspector Naval Kishore Singh of the Tarwan police station in Azamgarh filed a written complaint. The complaint stated that Akhand Pratap Singh, a resident of Jamua village under Tarwan police limits, had wilfully disobeyed court orders.

Despite a proclamation being issued against him under Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Singh failed to present himself before the court. Following the complaint, the Tarwan police registered a formal case. After a thorough investigation, a charge sheet was submitted before the competent court for trial.

Police Investigation and Court Proceedings

During the trial, the court examined a total of 11 prosecution witnesses. The case built by the police and argued by the public prosecutor relied on scientific investigation and collected evidence. This legal presentation proved decisive. The court, after considering all aspects, found the accused guilty of the charges. The final judgment on Tuesday awarded him three years of rigorous imprisonment along with the monetary penalty.

A History-Sheeter with a Long Criminal Record

Police officials revealed that the convicted Akhand Pratap Singh is not an ordinary offender. He is identified as a state-level mafia and is officially listed as a history-sheeter at the Tarwan police station. His criminal activities span multiple districts.

As per official records, a staggering 38 criminal cases are registered against him. These cases include serious charges under various acts, including:

  • Murder
  • Loot and Dacoity
  • The Gangsters Act
  • The SC/ST Act
  • The Arms Act
  • The Goonda Act

Currently, the convicted mafia is lodged in the Bareilly district jail. This sentence for contempt of court adds to his long list of legal troubles, marking another step in the judicial process against him.
